Research & Education Lead, Melanoma and Skin Cancers

Consultant Surgeon, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre; Consultant Surgeon, Austin Health View alliance profile

In this position, A/Prof David Gyorki brings together multiple disciplines, organisations and perspectives to produce solid outcomes in melanoma and high priority non-melanoma skin cancer.

Working with alliance partners and collaborators, A/Prof Gyorki and Dr Andreas Behren, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute are using Melanoma Research Victoria data and biobank resources to improve the calculation of risk of melanoma recurrence in patients with Stage III melanoma.

A multidisciplinary complex cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) special interest group has been established to prioritise and identify opportunities to progress research into this common skin cancer.

A/Prof Gyorki completed his education and training at the University of Melbourne and St Vincent’s Hospital, during this time he also gained an MD degree at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute. In addition, he has completed a clinical fellowship in complex surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. A/Prof Gyorki previously held the Herman Fellowship in Clinical Cancer Research at the University of Melbourne and currently holds a Peter MacCallum Clinician Researcher Fellowship.
