Michelle Barrett leads the Education and Training Development portfolio. Her role is to develop, curate and manage educational programming that supports knowledge and skill development for the clinical and research cancer workforce. The VCCC Alliance Education and Training Strategy is framed around the themes of clinical and research training, continuing professional development, patient education and awareness, connections and partnerships, organisational systems and leadership.

The VCCC Alliance education and training program is a comprehensive suite of offerings that covers the following areas: the tumour streams of haematology, melanoma and skin cancers, primary care integration, cancer nursing, lung cancer, gastro-intestinal cancers, genito-urinary cancers, head and neck cancers, gynae-oncology, sarcoma, central nervous system and brain cancers; leadership; clinical teaching, clinical trials, biostatistics, bioinformatics; knowledge transfer; consumer informed research; survivorship; psycho oncology; palliative care; patient reported outcome measures; communication skills; nurse led research; research co design and the cancer sciences.

These are delivered through the modalities of: a weekly streamed lecture series; symposia; webinars; vodcasts; conferences; workshops; online learning; massive open online courses; internships; virtual communication platforms; learning management systems; awards programs; scholarships; and a Masters and PhD program.

Michelle has an honours qualification in science, post graduate qualification in scientific communications and Master of Professional Education and Training. She has over 15 years of experience in curriculum writing and educational development and delivery in the medical undergraduate, post graduate and professional education and training arena.

Prior to joining the VCCC Alliance, Michelle was the Manager of Professional Development at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Manager of Curriculum and Training Development at the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and Lecturer, Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education at Monash University.
