Contrast Enhanced Mammography in Breast Cancer Surveillance

VCCC Alliance Grand Round Breast Cancer

Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM) has become an integral part of breast imaging. It has broad application to diagnose and screen, and has proven to be in the same league as MRI for cancer detection.

Join Dr Allison Rose (Director North-Western Breast Screen, and Head of Breast Imaging Breast Service, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Royal Women's Hospital) for a presentation that focuses on the performance of CEM in surveillance of women with a personal history of breast cancer.

Dr Allison Rose

Dr Allison Rose obtained her medical degree from The University of Melbourne and general radiology training at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, attaining M.Med. FRANZCR in 1988. She was appointed as a consultant radiologist at The Royal Melbourne Hospital in 1989 after a period in London working to gain experience in women’s imaging. She was one of the original radiologists with the Victorian Pilot Program for the Early Detection of Breast Cancer from 1989 under the auspice of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and became Director of North-Western Breast Screen in 1999.

In 2009 she became Head of Breast Imaging for The Royal Melbourne and Women’s Hospital Breast Service and in this role she has led the team to develop fully integrated comprehensive breast imaging across diagnostic and screening services. From 2001-2006 she was Deputy Director of the Radiology Department at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and was the main champion for implementation of enterprise wide PACS.

She was instrumental in establishing Breast MRI and MRI guided biopsy for the service and more recently, CEM. Her research interests include de-escalation of breast cancer treatment, tailored screening for breast cancer and the role of CEM in Breast Screen assessment, cancer staging and surveillance.

VCCC Alliance Grand Rounds

The VCCC Alliance Research and Education (R&E Lead) Breast Cancer program has developed a learning environment where researchers and clinical care teams can share information to improve cancer outcomes.

The VCCC Alliance Breast Cancer Grand Round aims to provide a shared view of what is happening in the development of breast cancer care and is helping to stimulate discussion and collaborations among experienced and novice researchers and clinicians.
