Monday Lunch Livestream: Cervical Cancer Awareness Week

Conquering Cervical Cancer – the role of the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation

To acknowledge Cervical Cancer Awareness Week, the VCCC Alliance invites you to join Liz Ham, Health Promotion Manager from the Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF), Laura Philpott (Program Coordinator, Hedland Well Women’s Centre, WA), and Christine Walters, cervical cancer survivor, for a special presentation on the impact of a cervical cancer diagnosis, and the inequities that exist in ensuring access to preventative measures.

It is estimated that there will be 913 cases of cervical cancer diagnosed in Australia in 2021.  The risk of a woman being diagnosed by age 85 is 1 in 162. Indigenous women are 2.5 times as likely to develop cervical cancer, and 3.5 times as likely to die from cervical cancer than non-Indigenous Australian women.

This presentation will provide information about the steps being taken to increase screening and vaccination rates, and the support available for those living with cervical cancer through the ACCF.

Australian Cervical Cancer Foundation (ACCF)
ACCF is a not for profit and the only Australian organisation devoted entirely to cervical cancer. ACCF focuses exclusively on raising awareness, helping with prevention, providing support and, ultimately, the elimination of cervical cancer, both in Australia and internationally in developing countries. ACCF’s programs have a holistic approach starting with education at schools and extending to the support given to people with cervical cancer and their families.
