Dr Emma O’Brien OAM has more than 20 years of clinical experience and site-specific research into the impact of music therapy on quality of life for people experiencing cancer. Her presentation will include original songs written by people living with cancer created in music therapy sessions.
Dr Emma O’Brien OAM is the founder of the music therapy service at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and is the Honorary Music Therapy Fellow and founder of the Music Therapy Program at The Chris O'Brien Lifehouse in NSW. Emma is an internationally renowned innovator in the role of music in wellbeing; specialising in facilitating the creation of original songs with individuals and communities. She completed her PhD research at both The Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre on the effects of songwriting on cancer patients' quality of life.
