VCCC Alliance Breast Cancer Grand Round with Dr Alexandra Murphy

Optimising Cardiovascular Outcomes in Oncology Patients

The intersection of oncology and cardiology is often overlooked. We are proud to present a masterclass in cardio-oncology with cardiologist Dr Alexandra Murphy, who will draw on her extensive experience and research to guide you through the key knowledge and skills needed to effectively assess and manage cardiovascular risk and health in oncology patients.

We are proud to present a masterclass in cardio-oncology with cardiologist, Dr Alexandra Murphy. With a wealth of knowledge gained from her Fulbright Scholarship at Mount Sinai, New York, and a completed PhD focusing on cardiovascular optimisation for breast cancer patients, Dr. Murphy brings a unique and invaluable perspective to the often overlooked intersection of oncology and cardiology.

Dr Alexandra Murphy will guide you through key areas such as risk assessment and stratification methodologies, preventative strategies against cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction, and the concept and management of permissive cardiotoxicity. She will discuss practical knowledge and strategies to improve their clinical practice. Drawing from her extensive experience and research, Dr Murphy will illuminate often-overlooked aspects of cardio-oncology, ensuring participants can assess and manage cardiovascular risk and health in oncology patients to achieve optimal outcomes.

You will gain the skills to:

  • Identify and utilise appropriate risk assessment tools and stratification methods for assessing cardiovascular risk in oncology patients.
  • Design and implement preventative strategies for managing cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction in clinical practice.
  • Understand the concept and implications of permissive cardiotoxicity in oncology, and how to monitor and manage such scenarios.
