Breast cancer patient care requires the expertise of a wide range of specialists. To create better, more effective multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) the VCCC is launching a multidisciplinary medical education series for breast cancer.

Research and Education Lead, Breast Cancer program

Advanced trainees in the various disciplines involved in breast cancer treatment are invited to register for the series, convened by the VCCC Research and Education Lead, (R&E Lead) breast cancer program. Participants will gain a greater understanding of the role that each discipline plays, and how they potentially intersect and overlap to lead to better patient care.

Monthly sessions will focus on key issues in breast cancer management, including areas where there is recent change and uncertainty, and where multidisciplinary decision-making is essential for optimal patient care.

They will be facilitated by Professor Bruce Mann, surgical oncologist; and Dr Belinda Yeo, medical oncologist, Austin Health, and clinician scientist, Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute.

“Breast cancer treatment is multidisciplinary, therefore it is important that education is also multidisciplinary,” says Professor Mann.

Dr Yeo agrees, “The treatment of breast cancer is truly multidisciplinary. In training, we are often highly focused on the intricacies of our specific discipline and it is only when we have completed training that the nuances of the team become realised."

Health professionals developing their expertise in the management of breast cancer are invited to register for the monthly webinars, which will be held online and offer an interactive opportunity.
