Australia and New Zealand Sarcoma Association (ANZSA) is partnering with the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre in July to present a special series of four webinars for Sarcoma Awareness Month. The webinar series will prompt discussion and answer questions on a range of topics including sarcoma-related clinical trials, managing practical issues while undergoing treatment, life after sarcoma treatment and patient referral pathways for GPs.
The series is suitable for health professionals who would like to understand the complexity of sarcoma from the patient's perspective, and invites participation from people undergoing treatment for sarcoma and their families.
Week 1: Clinical trial - why should I participate in one?
Monday 6 July, 2.30pm - 3.30pm
Gain a better understanding of clinical trials in general but also sarcoma-related clinical trials, which may differ from other cancer types.
Week 2: Managing practical issues while undergoing sarcoma treatment
Thursday 16 July, 12.00pm - 1.00pm
Being treated for a sarcoma, whether it be bone or soft tissue sarcoma brings about a range of practical issues. From transportation and accommodation, to managing finances, employment and what to do about childcare, there is a lot to think about and organise at an already difficult time.
Week 3: Life after sarcoma treatment
Thursday 23 July, 12.00pm - 1.00pm
Life after treatment is a crucial area to address for patients as they go through treatment and beyond. While sarcoma treatment can have debilitating effects on people physically, many patients are also affected mentally, emotionally, socially and financially.
Week 4: Patient referral pathway (for GPs)
Date to be confirmed
Many general practitioners still have limited knowledge on sarcoma and as a result, may not be able to spot sarcoma early. They may not be well-informed on the referral process for patients with suspected sarcoma diagnosis.
All confirmed events are available to view on the VCCC events page.
