Nurses who took part in the VCCC Nurse-led Research Hub Partnership Post program in 2019 say the program has demystified research and opens the door for more nurses to consider research as a pathway to improve patient care, and to enhance their career capability.

“From gaining the confidence to work up a research question, through to designing and planning a comprehensive project, the VCCC Nurse-led Research Partnership Post has been hugely positive for the nurses involved,” says Natasha Moloczij, Program Manager.

“Selection into the program this year was subject to candidates putting forward a clinical problem needing an evidence base, and participation has enabled the nurses involved to formulate questions that will lead to meaningful, robust research.”

The Partnership Post program has resulted in a series of workshops designed specifically for nurses to develop their research capability.

This year workshops have been made available for a limited number of nurses who are not quite ready or lack the available time to undertake the full Partnership Post program.

Some of the workshops are:

  • Experience-based co-design
  • Types of literature reviews
  • Mixed methods
  • Qualitative research
  • Writing for publication
  • Knowledge translation for nurses
  • Behaviour change

Applications are now being sought for nurses from Austin Health, The Royal Children’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne and Western Health to join the VCCC Partnership Post program in 2020.

The program will run for 12 weeks, commencing 6 February 2020 and the group of eight candidates will spend each Thursday and Friday learning about research. Successful applicants will be supported by participating hospitals to attend and will have their time backfilled.

Applications are to be made online no later than 9.00am Monday 4 November 2019.

The Nurse-led Research Partnership Post is an initiative of the VCCC Nurse-led Research Hub which is a multi-faceted initiative to support nurses to turn clinical ideas into research, network, and grow their research knowledge and skills.
