Since October last year the VCCC Education and Training program has presented close to 100 professional development events to nearly 5,000 participants face-to-face and online.

The educational program represents a significant investment into professional learning across the VCCC alliance and impacts on clinicians, researchers, students, cancer patients and carers.

It includes a new online Master of Cancer Sciences through the University of Melbourne, the hugely popular Monday Lunch Live lecture series and multiple strategic learning workshops. Facilitators for the workshops are local and international experts, and include teaching staff from the University of Melbourne Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences.

The majority of short courses are free to alliance clinical and research staff and are held at various member organisation locations throughout Melbourne. They are designed to enhance participants’ existing knowledge by introducing the latest practice, evidence and ideas in cancer care and research.

“I think the knowledge and skills I will gain will allow me to effectively contribute to multidisciplinary teams in a growing cancer workforce, and will equip me with cutting-edge, specialist knowledge so I can provide my patients with optimal care.”

The next free workshop will be held on Thursday 25 July at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and will be led by the Master of Clinical Research team from the University of Melbourne. The full-day session: VCCC Clinical research design workshop: Learn the basics for designing a research project is for emerging researchers who would like to understand the fundamentals of designing a clinical research project.  It is a practical and interactive workshop introducing the steps involved from progressing a clinical research idea to execution.

Erin Turner, VCCC Education Program Coordinator says, “It’s a very hands-on course and we cover a lot of ground in one day from constructing a research question through to designing a study and peer-reviewing your proposal. It also focuses on systematic reviews and meta-analysis so provides a really solid grounding overall.”

Register now for the July workshop.  Professional development is regularly posted on the VCCC website under Events or contact Erin Turner for more information.
