I love teaching and mentoring students. I have the privilege of providing them with a firm foundation for moving ahead in their careers, and then following them as they succeed. In my WEHI role I provide academic, professional development and wellbeing support to the Institute’s students.
My involvement with the VCCC Alliance has fundamentally changed my outlook on how cancer is treated, how consumers can be involved, and how I am able to contribute. I’ve served on the Education Committee (CETAC), contributed to the development of and teaching the Masters of Cancer Science, and I co-Chair the Leading for Impact program.
I’ve worked with an amazing group of dedicated cancer educators, professionals, and consumers. In the process, I’ve formed friendships and firm working relationships, and expanded my networks.
What do I hope the alliance will achieve in years to come? I hope that consumer contributions become embedded in research, which will enrich and improve outcomes. I hope leadership is promoted at all levels, so that after five years, there are clear leadership journeys and contributions. I hope that all those leading the drive to improve cancer care are supported and allowed to grow, resulting in increased synergies and possibilities.
