Emerging and high potential research topics
Celebrate Melbourne’s status as one of the world’s leading cancer research and treatment centres, and our role and responsibility in sharing this expertise across the state, the nation and the region. The Research Conference is a rare opportunity for anyone interested in cancer research, treatment and care to participate in a truly multi-disciplinary, expert-led scientific meeting spanning a broad range of emerging and high potential research topics. From genomics and immunotherapy to AI/digital technology and epidemiological insights, the September conference is a not-to-be-missed chance for cancer clinicians, researchers, nurses, allied heath, advocates and consumers to gain a holistic perspective on Australia’s leading cause of disease burden from experts in the field.

Fifty plus speakers
The 50+ speakers in the two day conference line-up include Professor Doug Hanahan, internationally-renowned biologist, professor and director of the Swiss Institute for Experimental Cancer Research of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and co-author of the seminal paper The Hallmarks of Cancer; as well as Professor Sanchia Aranda AM, CEO of Cancer Council Australia and Professor Steve Baylin, co-Chief of the Cancer Biology Program of The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins and the Virginia and D.K. Ludwig Chair in Cancer Research.

Public forum
The two-day scientific program will conclude with an evening public forum, The Next Wave: the future of cancer care from Victoria and beyond. This special free event in the Sofitel ballroom will be open to all. The forum will bring together a panel of key conference speakers including Professor Doug Hanahan with patient/consumer ambassadors to explore the current state of play of cancer research.
