Consumer Reference Group, Personalised Cancer Care - regional members sought

A new VCCC Alliance Consumer Reference Group is being established to provide advice to the Personalised Cancer Care program and be involved in a consumer-led initiative to seek consumer perspectives on the use of genomic testing.

25 Nov 2021

We are looking for regionally-based consumer representatives to join the Consumer Reference Group. This is an opportunity to work together with other consumers through sharing lived experiences to inform improvements in genomic testing and equity of clinical access.

About the opportunity

The Personalised Cancer Care program, as part of the Strategic Program Plan 2021-24, aims to influence the integration of genomics and/or immunological tests (molecular tests) into routine cancer care, reflecting advancements in research and technology that provide deeper analysis of cancer and appropriate therapies.

A Consumer Reference Group as part of the program will support the work of the Personalised Cancer Care program by advising on planned activities. More specifically, there is a unique opportunity for Consumer Reference Group members to:

  • Actively contribute to the collection of consumer perspectives by designing and disseminating survey questions, as well as interpretation of findings.
  • Be provided information about current research around personalised cancer care in accessible language.
  • Be assisted by a VCCC Alliance Program Manager and other project team members to identify a relevant research question(s) to guide the collection of evidence of consumer perspectives.

We are seeking motivated cancer consumers* from regional Victoria with:

  • Experience as a representative consumer
  • Ability to represent lived experiences or work together with communities to gather views
  • Experience or an understanding of genomic testing.

* Cancer consumers are patients, families, carers and other support people. It includes in a broad sense anyone affected by cancer.

Your commitment

All meetings will be offered online and held as required (1-2 times per month). Members will work together between meetings with the Program Manager and Consumer Involvement Manager to progress consumer-led initiatives.
