Nurses who work with people affected by cancer and who have an interest in building their research skills are invited to attend this online workshop focusing on clinical trials.In this special VCCC Alliance Nurse-Led Research event, Marian Lieschke provides an overview of the nursing implications of clinical trials in the delivery of cancer care and highlights the critical role that nurses play in both the conduct and outcomes of clinical trials.
Marian Lieschke, RN is the Manager of the Parkville Cancer Clinical Trials Unit. She trained as an Oncology Nurse at the Royal Marsden and after moving to Australia worked extensively as a Clinical Oncology Research Nurse, becoming the Manager of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Oncology Clinical Trials Unit in 2004. She was appointed to her current position in 2016, bringing the trial units of RMH, the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and the Royal Women’s Hospitals together as a single unit to serve the precinct, a unit which now employs nearly 100 staff.

See Dr Vijaya Joshi, Health Equity Manager, VCCC Alliance provide an informative workshop hosted by the VCCC Alliance Nurse-led Research Hub that draws on research expertise across a variety of settings to examine and explore critical considerations when conducting research with people from diverse populations.
Representatives will discuss approaches, experiences and challenges for a variety of populations including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, paediatrics, adolescents and young adults (AYA), mental health, LGBTIQ+ and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations.

Nurses who work with people with cancer and who have an interest in building their clinical and research skills are invited to attend this workshop. The workshop explores best practice principles of consumer engagement and the ways that the consumer voice can enhance different stages of projects – from informing to consumer led.This special event draws on examples to facilitate a discussion around how nurses can actively include consumers to influence and evaluate clinical practice change.
Nurse-led research examples are used to highlight the power and value of consumer engagement and provide an opportunity for Q&A with our expert presenters.

Hear a stellar panel of nurses working at the cutting-edge of cancer care at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Austin Health and Royal Children's. Hosted by Professor Mei Krishnasamy, Director of Academic Nursing Unit at Peter Mac and VCCC Alliance Research & Education Lead, Cancer Nursing, this special event will focus on the breadth and complexity of the work cancer nurses do every day from targeted therapies to complex transplant patient management, clinical trials, paediatric care and more.
