Clarel Philibert

EAG member

Clarel is Mauritian and came to Australia to study in 2004. He was diagnosed with a soft tissue Sarcoma in 2020, and started treatment during the pandemic, while caring for his family - a gorgeous 5-year-old daughter and wonderful partner who migrated over to Australia 10 years ago.

While battling cancer Clarel was made redundant and lost his father who was living in Mauritius. Applying his studies and lifelong lived experience, Clarel has carried his focus toward studying Community Service, to strengthen and empower his knowledge, in providing more effective, wholistic support to those affected by cancer.

Clarel area of interest is improved communication and language use between clinicians and patients. He has developed and identified techniques and methods of communication to facilitate the journey, supporting the concerns and needs of the individuals affected.

Clarel has also been an active advocate for various institutions, engaging in fundraising event activities at his daughter’s school, and as a volunteer at Cancer Council Victoria and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

Recent achievements include finishing the 10km Melbourne Marathon, supporting the DAFFODIL Day Campaign and participating in Cancer Council Victoria’s Walking Stars campaign.
