Dr Joanne Britto is the Senior Manager Consumer Involvement at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Alliance. With a PhD in neuroscience and over 20 years in medical research, Joanne’s interest in knowledge sharing and outreach is a key feature in her career. Whilst a Research Fellow at The Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health, Joanne established community awareness programs about the brain, including a successful School Outreach Program reaching hundreds of students across Victoria. Shifting from a research career into health communication at the Cancer Council Victoria, Joanne’s interests extended to engaging with health professionals and the public to raise awareness of supportive care in cancer. Currently, Joanne works together with people affected by cancer and staff at the VCCC Alliance to actively embed a lived experience into project design and implementation. Combining skills in medical research, education, and communication, Joanne works across multiple stakeholders to build strategies that integrate the lived experience through collaboration and effective engagement practices
