John Asgari's background is in Clinical Dietetics and Health Science. He is currently a registered NHMRC Associate Investigator and a Health Consumer Representative. He has completed several Research Education and Training Programs on Consumer and Community Involvement in Health Research and Consumer Engagement in Research.
John is a recognised Health Consumer Advisor, nominated by the Consumer Health Forum of Australia (CHF) and appointed by the Australian Government Department of Health to the Dental Feasibility Study Expert Reference Group in 2022. The final report of this study was published by The Senate Select Committee into the Provision of and Access to Dental Services in Australia in 2023. He was also a health consumer advisor member of the MPCCC Precision Oncology Summit Steering Group, contributing to the publication "Equitable Access to Genomic Molecular Testing for Australian Cancer Patients: Insights from the Vic Precision Oncology Summit, 2024" in the international medical journal Current Oncology. Additionally, he was an advisory committee member and co-author of "Oral Health Messages for Australians: A National Consensus Statement" published in the Australian Dental Journal.
John has been actively involved as an AI Consumer in numerous research projects, contributing to the co-design of research projects and facilitating the involvement of key consumer networks/groups. He is passionate about bringing the consumers' perspectives as well as his own lived experience to the Cancer Consumer-Led Research Partnership in collaboration with other stakeholders to improve the conduct of research and deliver outcomes that have greater relevance, are of higher quality and, ultimately, are more directly transferable to healthcare practice and health outcomes for all Victorians.
