Sophy Athan is a consumer advocate with several academic qualifications, including a Bachelor and Master of Arts, two graduate diplomas and two leadership certificates.
She has substantial experience as a consumer leader and representative in cancer research projects over the past 15 years.
Sophy was the inaugural chair of the Cancer Consumer Advisory Committee of the VCCC Alliance from 2015 to 2023. She currently serves on more than 20 committees and advisory panels and sits on a number of boards.
Sophy is on the Data Governance Advisory Committee (Uni of Melbourne, Primary Health), DH Health Information Sharing Reform for Department of Health, Cardiac Outcomes Linked Data Committee for VAHI, chair of the Consumer Panel for PRIMCAT, MRFF funded collaborative predicting the population health economic impacts project, PRECEPT a Prostate Cancer Research Alliance Grant, EMPHN CAC, and was the chair of the Health Issues Centre from 2015-2024, Victoria’s peak consumer organisation.
Sophy has been a committed and passionate consumer advocate in the areas of mental health, disability, aged care, CALD and primary health.
