The past, present and future of AYA cancer nursing

This free event is a pre-congress workshop as part of the 6th Global Adolescent and Young Adult Congress and is for nurses interested in the cancer care of adolescents and young adults. It will provide a range of learning experiences including guest speakers, case-based panel discussions and workshop opportunities.

The past, resent and future of AYA cancer nursing:
Build knowledge and skills in the planning and delivery of youth-friendly cancer care.

This free event is a pre-congress workshop as part of the 6th Global Adolescent and Young Adult Congress.

The seminar is for nurses interested in the cancer care of adolescents and young adults cancer care. Hosted at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre building, this seminar will provide a range of learning experiences including guest speakers, case-based panel discussions and workshop opportunities. Participants will explore the principles and practicalities of delivering youth-friendly cancer care and have the opportunity to participate in one of three breakout workshops:

  • Words Matter: Communicating effectively with adolescents and young adults with cancer
  • Ethics and legal issues in adolescent and young adult oncology
  • Palliative care and advanced care planning for young people. 

This seminar will include the voice of adolescent and young adult consumers. Their unique insights and perspectives as the recipients of healthcare are critical to the future of AYA cancer care.

The 6th Global Adolescent and Young Adult Congress is supported by funding from the Australian Government under the Youth Cancer Services Initiative.
