Microsoft Excel and Metrics Reporting Skills in Research and Clinical Trials

Targeted at research managers and clinical trial staff, this series of workshops have been designed to reinforce and add to your current Microsoft Excel skills. They will help you develop the reporting and business skills required to run clinical trial units and meet the needs of the new National Clinical Trials Governance Framework (NCTGF).

There are four workshop types to suit different skill levels, from beginner to advanced. They are designed to further develop day-to-day skills required to successfully support business management responsibilities in a unit, as well as higher-level reporting on clinical trial metrics.

Our online workshops are capped at small numbers to ensure interactivity and tailoring. You are encouraged to bring along queries and/or examples from your experience in your unit.

Facilitated by Andrew Chong from SimplyThat Training, several dates are available for each workshop. You are welcome to enrol in all three as a series, or pick a workshop most relevant to you.

Thank you for your interest in this workshop series to date. The series will be wrapping up in June.

Further Learning

This workshop series forms part of the larger work in the Clinical Trial Innovations portfolio to upskill the clinical trials workforce. Other resources that are available include:

  • Business Skills for Clinical Trial Research Managers: A tailor-made course created by current research managers and clinical trial staff covering the content they wish they knew when they began their roles. It covers: hospital finance, feasibility in clinical trials, insurance, contracts and agreements, budgeting a single clinical trial, budgeting a clinical trial unit, staffing a clinical trial unit, and business negotiations. It is hosted on the VCCC Alliance’s Centre for Cancer Education.

  • Clinical Trial Metrics “Cheat Sheet” Tool: Clinical trial metrics are data points that provide insight into operational performance and are powerful tools for assessing progress, decision-making, and measuring the strength of evidence used in clinical trials. Leveraging the National Clinical Trials Governance Framework, and incorporating business and quality improvement metrics, a Minimum Data Set resource and accompanying guidance booklet has been developed by the VCCC Alliance to provide a benchmark to help Clinical Trial Units and departments determine their reporting requirements.
