The VCCC Alliance is pleased to welcome childhood cancer expert Professor David Eisenstat as its newest Board Director.
He replaces outgoing member, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute Director, Professor Kathryn North AC.
Prof Eisenstat is Director of the Children’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and Group Leader of Neuro-Oncology at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI).
He is also an Honorary Professorial Fellow in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Melbourne. With extensive experience as a neuro-oncologist and clinician scientist focused on the developmental origins of childhood cancers, he also co-led the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium from 2021 to 2024.
Prof Eisenstat is no stranger to the VCCC Alliance. Since 2021, he has served as a member of our Cancer Research Advisory Committee (CRAC) and was appointed Chair of the CRAC Metrics subcommittee in 2024. He was also a member of the Scientific Committee for the 2023 VCCC Alliance Research Conference in Melbourne.
VCCC Alliance Chief Executive Prof Grant McArthur AO welcomed the appointment of Prof Eisenstat.
“Prof Eisenstat’s significant leadership experience in paediatric cancer health service delivery and research ensures there is a voice for paediatric cancer at the table. His expertise is absolutely invaluable to the organisation,” Prof McArthur said.
“With momentum building in children’s cancer research in Victoria and across Australia, the alliance is committed to supporting the efforts towards zero childhood deaths from cancer to give our most vulnerable patients the opportunity to live long and full lives.
“The VCCC Alliance looks forward to the insights and perspectives Prof Eisenstat will bring to the Board, as we continue to pursue better outcomes for all Victorians living with cancer,” he said.
