Melbourne MicroCert: Drug Commercialisation Fundamentals scholarships

The VCCC Alliance is offering scholarships for staff from VCCC Alliance member organisations, and the regional cancer workforce, to undertake a Melbourne MicroCert (online, short course through the University of Melbourne) in Drug Commercialisation Fundamentals. The time commitment is approximately four hours per week, delivered flexibly, allowing you to learn on your own schedule and within the timeframe.

Up to 10 scholarships will be awarded to cover 75 per cent of fees for this MicroCert course starting on 30 October 2023.

Drug Commercialisation Fundamentals

Be supported to study part-time at your own pace. The course also offers a pathway – otherwise known as advanced standing – into the Master of Cancer Sciences.

Taking a therapeutic drug from bench to bedside involves a complex, collaborative industry effort.

This Melbourne MicroCert is ideal for health professionals, researchers and other professionals seeking a stronger understanding of the drug commercialisation pipeline and how to take a product from discovery to commercial success.

Delivered in partnership with the VCCC Alliance, the course gives you access to leading industry experts who will provide evidence-based insights and indispensable guidance on the drug development process.

Who will you learn from?

Theresa Connor, Subject Coordinator

Theresa is a cancer researcher and project manager at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Theresa has over 10 years’ experience in drug discovery focused on pre-clinical commercialisation. She is a project manager in the Centre of Excellence in Cellular Immunotherapy translational laboratory. Theresa and the VCCC Alliance would also like to acknowledge Lucy Pearce, Dr Julian Clark, Professor Andrew Wilks and Michelle MacNamara for their contribution to this Melbourne MicroCert.

Who should enrol?

  • Health professionals, industry professionals, researchers and other professionals seeking to advance or refresh skills and knowledge in high-demand areas.
  • It will suit oncology physician specialists (medical, radiation, surgical), cancer nurses, cancer allied health professionals, clinical trial assistants, study coordinators, investigators, researchers, biomedical and pharmaceutical scientists, general practitioners.
  • Participants require a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area 

Key benefits

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the various economic, intellectual property and strategic alliance considerations involved in embarking on commercial partnerships.

  • Explain the steps involved from identifying a candidate, to commercialisation of a product through a commercial drug venture pitch.

  1. You are an active member of the cancer workforce in Victoria
  2. You are employed by a VCCC Alliance member organisation or are part of Victoria's regional cancer workforce.
