More educational and research training support will be available to paediatric cancer nurses following an investment by the Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF).
CCF is funding a new Paediatric Scholarship and Support Program within the VCCC Alliance Nurse-led Research Hub, supporting scholarships, and vital administrative funding.
CCF will provide $50,000 a year to the program, enabling paediatric nurses to access our new online learning course, Essential research skills for clinical nurses.
In the first year, the CCF will fund up to 67 paediatric oncology nurses in Australia and New Zealand to undertake the course and provide support to implement and promote aspects of the Nurse-led Research Hub.
“Nurses form the largest part of the healthcare workforce and are in a key position to identify gaps in clinical practice and drive patient and family-centred research to deliver evidence-informed care,” said, Professor Mei Krishnasamy, VCCC Alliance Research and Education Lead, Cancer Nursing.
“We are most grateful to CCF for this investment in paediatric cancer nursing. I have no doubt it will deliver real benefits for young patients and their families.”
“We know firsthand the vital role that nurses play in caring for children and families during their darkest times. Investing in nurse-led research in this way will strengthen the paediatric cancer nursing workforce, develop skills and promote improved career satisfaction and retention,” said Michelle Crawford, Children’s Cancer Foundation CEO.
Nurse-Led Research Hub Program Manager, Sharon De Graves, said: “We think this initiative will build vital relationships with paediatric oncology health services, ANZCHOG, and the Victorian Paediatric Cancer Consortium (VPCC).”
Essential research skills for clinical nurses will be available from September 18, 2023, on the VCCC Alliance Centre for Cancer Education.
The online course is part of a range of education and support offered by the Nurse-led Research Hub.
