As the VCCC alliance accelerates efforts to deliver its $30 million Strategic Research Plan by 2020, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Anna Boltong to the key leadership position of Associate Director. This is a pivotal role providing strategic and operational oversight across the VCCC’s main portfolio areas, with particular focus on program quality and long-term sustainability.
‘Anna’s appointment as Associate Director is terrific news for the alliance and the wider cancer community,’ said Executive Director of the VCCC alliance, Professor Grant McArthur. ‘Anna is absolutely passionate about optimal cancer care and has a strong track record of collaborative leadership, building capacity and genuine innovation. This means she brings the special qualities required to succeed in the challenging and exciting setting of a rapidly-evolving organisation.’
Anna’s background spans domestic and international leadership positions in allied health, clinical oncology and supportive care research; public health policy development and education. Her recent focus has been developing high level strategy and policy to drive cancer control efforts at Cancer Council Victoria. As Head of Strategy and Support Division at Cancer Council Victoria, Anna introduced innovations to empower patients and clinicians through delivery of credible and compassionate information and support. She also drove improvements to data intelligence to enhance system design and reach.
Anna’s extensive sector knowledge and experience working with consumers has direct alignment with the VCCC’s focus and priorities. Her appointment will further strengthen the synergies between the VCCC alliance and Cancer Council Victoria.
Paying tribute to Anna’s contribution and credentials, Todd Harper, CEO of Cancer Council Victoria said, ‘The appointment is a great reflection of Anna’s breadth of expertise, the reputation she enjoys within the cancer sector and the enthusiasm she always brings to her work. In times like this, I find it is easy to feel sad about losing such a respected colleague, but I also have great pride in the fact that others recognise the same qualities that we see.’
Anna says she is thrilled to be joining the VCCC at a critical stage of its development and being part of a transformative organisation. ‘I’m incredibly excited to be joining such a dynamic team and an alliance that is really starting to shift the dial on what we can achieve by working together strategically and with shared purpose,’ she said. ‘This is highly innovative and ambitious work and I am eager to get on board and contribute to realising the true potential of the alliance and see its full benefits flow through to the community in Victoria and beyond.’
As Associate Director, Anna will work closely with the Executive Director and portfolio heads to oversee and support the delivery of the Strategic Research Plan and develop business objectives to drive the overarching strategy of the VCCC. Working with stakeholders across the sector, Anna will also focus on fostering a culture of excellence and improving the quality and impact of cancer research, education and patient care across Victoria, with an eye to national and international alliances in the future.
