01 Mar 2023

The VCCC Alliance is pleased to announce the appointment of Western Health’s Ms Jessica Balson as Deputy Chair of the Cancer Education and Training Advisory Committee (CETAC).

Ms Balson is a Nurse Unit Manager within Cancer Services at Western Health. She is also co-chair of the VCCC Alliance Digital Oncology Learning Hub program – the Centre for Cancer Education – and has been a member of CETAC since 2019.

CETAC Chair Associate Professor David Kok welcomed Ms Balson’s appointment to the committee’s leadership team.

“Jessica’s Masters thesis on the educational needs of non-specialist cancer nurses informed the development of an online educational resource," he said. "We’re extremely fortunate to have someone with her experience as Deputy Chair of CETAC and look forward to her contributions in overseeing a comprehensive education and training strategy that supports a highly skilled clinical, research and education workforce.”

Ms Balson said her involvement in the resource had inspired her to work further with cancer healthcare professionals. “My recent work developing the online cancer education resource has fuelled my passion for developing the cancer workforce,” she said.

“I am proud to be representing Western Health in this role as a cancer nurse, an educator and an early career researcher.

"I look forward to working with the CETAC members and supporting Associate Professor Kok in this new role as Deputy Chair.”

Established in December 2009, CETAC provides expert advice on the development, implementation of best practice and quality improvement of education and training programming across VCCC Alliance strategic programs.

The online education resource is Fundamentals of Nursing Care for People with Cancer.
