2024 Picchi Awards for Excellence in Cancer Research

The VCCC Alliance is proud to partner once again with the Picchi Brothers Foundation for the 2024 Picchi Awards for Excellence in Cancer Research. Up to three $10,000 prizes recognising outstanding cancer research will be awarded to PhD students from across the VCCC Alliance member organisations and regional partners with a collaboration agreement.

06 Mar 2024

The prestigious Picchi Awards have now spanned more than a decade and champion potential world-class researchers embarking on their careers. PhD students from across the VCCC Alliance member organisations and regional partners are invited to apply in the categories of basic science, clinical science and population health.

Background

The Picchi Brothers Foundation supports the awards in the hope that they will inspire and encourage the next generation of leaders in cancer research.

The prizes are intended to recognise, develop and support the top-performing students from the alliance, based on the productivity and impact of the work from their PhD. It is intended that the 2024 prizes will:

  • Support personal and professional development towards research independence
  • Enable recipients to engage in collaborative work
  • Enable recipients to attend or participate remotely or physically in an international conference/s.

Who is this for?

The opportunity is available to PhD students who have confirmed candidature at a University affiliated with a VCCC Alliance member organisation and are undertaking cancer-related research training within a VCCC Alliance member organisation. It is also available to those who work at a regional partner with a collaboration agreement with the VCCC Alliance.

Students will normally have completed at least 24 months' candidature (FTE) at the time of application. The candidate’s doctoral work must address one of the six pillars of cancer control including:

  • prevention
  • screening and early diagnosis
  • treatment
  • research
  • education
  • cancer information

PhD students who have submitted their thesis but have not had it accepted at the time of application submission are still eligible to apply.
