The VCCC Alliance, in partnership with Melanoma Institute Australia and funded by the Federal Government, has launched a specialised nursing education program to strengthen Australia’s melanoma nursing workforce.
In response to Australia’s high melanoma incidence and the growing complexity of treatments, this initiative supports the National Melanoma Nurses Program.
Co-informed by nurses and people with lived experience, the education program targets key areas that are integral to advanced nursing practice - leadership, education, research, and support of systems - while building clinical expertise.
Learning is delivered via an interactive digital hub on the VCCC Alliance Centre for Cancer Education, tailored to the needs of Melanoma Institute Australia, and featuring:
This structured program delivers multifaceted learning opportunities. These will be mapped across a learning pathway that supports the development of specialist melanoma nurses with advanced clinical knowledge, leadership skills and research capability. It will strengthen the melanoma nursing workforce by enabling the delivery of consistent, quality, evidence-informed care across all health care settings.
Critically, the initiative will optimise experience and outcomes for patients with melanoma through a capable, confident, and connected nursing workforce.
VCCC Alliance is proud to be a partner on a project led by the University of Sydney that aims to help individuals experiencing cancer with a common but sometimes difficult to talk about problem. The SexFICC project, co-led by Professor Claudia Rutherford and Professor Kate White from the University of Sydney, is the recipient of a Cancer Patient Support Program grant that seeks to upskill and enable nurses to address sexual function and intimacy (SFI) concerns that can arise for individuals treated for cancer, in a culturally sensitive way to reduce unmet needs. VCCC Alliance partners on the SexFICC project.
