2021 David Danks Oration

Translating genetic discoveries into primary care practice

Join us to hear from Professor Jon Emery who will deliver the 2021 David Danks Oration.

The Human Genome Project was completed 18 years ago with considerable expectation of benefits to human health and a revolution in healthcare. The research translational pipeline is long but we are now beginning to see how advances in genetic epidemiology and sequencing technology will transform the way GPs practice medicine in the 21st century.

Join us to hear from Professor Jon Emery who will deliver the 2021 David Danks Oration, Translating genetic discoveries into primary care practice.

Professor Emery will present examples from his past and present research program on the integration of genetic advances into primary care, including pre-natal carrier screening, pharmacogenomics and cancer risk assessment tools.

About the speaker

Jon Emery is the Herman Professor of Primary Care Cancer Research in the Department of General Practice and Centre for Cancer Research. He is also Director of the national primary care cancer trials group (PC4), the Primary Care Research and Education Lead for the VCCC Alliance, and an NHMRC Leadership Fellow.

About the David Danks Oration

Named in honour of Professor David Miles Danks, who has been hailed by many as ‘the father of clinical genetics in Australia’, the David Danks Oration draws upon the widely-respected expertise of its orators to raise the profile of Human Genetics on an Australian stage.

Presented by the University of Melbourne Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. Register to attend.
