Board Chair Professor Sanchia Aranda AM has paid tribute to Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) Director, Prof Kathryn North AC, who is stepping down from her position on the VCCC Alliance board after nine years of outstanding service. Prof Aranda said Prof North joined the Board in July 2015, when MCRI became a VCCC Alliance member.

“On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Kathryn for her enormous contribution to our Alliance and cancer research over this time,” Prof Aranda said.

“Kathryn has provided invaluable input into board deliberations, as well as expertise in engagement and partnership building that is second to none.

“We look forward to drawing on Kathryn’s continued expertise from her perspective as a member.”

Prof North, who is also the David Danks Professor of Child Health Research at the University of Melbourne, is renowned for her national and international leadership in genomic medicine.

She leads Australian Genomics, an NHMRC-funded national network of over 80 institutions around Australia, and is widely recognised as a world leader in neuromuscular disorders, cognitive deficits in neurofibromatosis, and genes that influence athletic performance.
